If you're looking for a Swiss Army knife in a solo canoe, the Northwind Solo is one of your best bets. Capacious enough to handle you and a good sized dog (or a small passenger of the toddler variety) and/or a couple of packs, maneuverable enough to be handy on tight twisty streams and rivers, and seaworthy enough to handle some of the big lakes up in the Boundary Waters on days when the wind kicks up some wave action.

Northstar offers the Northwind Solo in four constructions and with thee different trim options; bronzed aluminum (standard), all wood, and the new E6 carbon gunwale/deck option, with laminated carbon gunwales and birdseye maple laminated seat and thwarts, making the boat a little bit stiffer, a little bit lighter, and totally bad-ass in the process.
Northwind Solos are available in:
- IXP Innegra/Kevlar (42 pounds) : clearcoat
- StarLite aramid (30 pounds) : clearcoat
- BlackLite carbon/aramid (31 pounds) : clearcoat
- Stealth, with innegra/carbon and all carbon trim (25 lbs)
